Four Star Award Winners Announced

MIAMI-Celent with Insurance Innovation Reporter magazine today announced the winners of the Four Star Awards during the Latin American Insurance IT Executive Summit held recently in Miami, Florida. The awards recognize outstanding insurance IT professionals in each of Latin America's major regions - Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America, Andinean, and South America.

Candidates were identified through a direct nomination process. Celent and Insurance Innovation Reporter invited vendors, insurance executives and other industry observers to name executives who made outstanding contributions in their use of IT to further their companies’ objectives.

Winners:

• South Cone: Boris Cazuriaga, Gerente Nacional de Tecnología, La Boliviana Ciacruz Seguros
• Andean Region: Guillermo Ramírez, VP Technology Business Solutions, RIMAC Insurance & Re insurance
• Central America and Caribbean: Juan Pedro Fonseca Soto, Gerente de Innovación y Desarrollo de Negocio Seguros GYT
• Mexico:
  • Darío Okrent, Director General, BBVA Seguros - Wibe); (tie)
  • Juan Cumbrado Grande, CIO Regional, LATAM Norte, Mapfre.(tie)

The submissions were reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges including: Denise García, Director General of Development and Research, National Commission for Insurance and Finance, Mexico;. ; Francisco Astelarra, President of the Argentine Association of Insurance Companies and Jorge Claude, Executive Vice President, Insurance Association of Chile.

The judges ranked the candidates across the region, using the following criteria:

• Degree of innovativeness/quality of innovation;
• Leadership—human qualities, capability of inspiring and managing teams;
• Project management acumen;
• Magnitude of results (in proportion to investment); and
• Quality of results: The degree of change the candidate’s innovation has made for the company, what kind of company the initiatives are enabling the insurer to be.

“We had very strong submissions and all of the finalists deserve a ton of recognition,” said Juan Mazzini, Senior Analyst at Celent. “The job of the judges has not been easy, but has been fundamental to decide the winners as they provided an unbiased industry view when scoring each case. I am very happy by the results. Interestingly, most of the winners are relatively new to the industry and I wonder what this may be telling us about how to inject innovation into the market.”
