Former CIO and industry expert strengthens market-leading life, annuities, and health insurance analyst team.

Celent today announced that Tom Scales, former CIO and life expert, has joined its insurance practice. Scales will join as a Research Director, focused on industry and channel strategy, home office and agent technology, insurance operations, and implementation and consolidation approaches.

“I’m excited and looking forward to working with the Celent team,” said Scales. “Having been on the other side of the table as both a COO and CIO, I know that navigating technology strategies in the life sector can be extremely challenging. This role enables me to share some of my practical experience with clients while also progressing industry thinking forward through the delivery of cutting-edge research.”

Highlights of Tom’s career include:

  • Over 30 years of experience in leadership roles across the industry, such as being COO and CIO of Transamerica Life insurance and the COO and CIO BISYS, now Crump, one of the nation’s largest Brokerage General Agencies (BGA). Tom started his career in the software and consultancy industry with CSC and FiServ.
  • A recent engagement developing a strategy to expand an agent-based organization into both direct-to-consumer call center and web-based sales. This venture focused on the sale of productions in the Affordable Care Act space, including the implementation of an online exchange.
