Celent Insurance Team News
A message from our CEO
With a growing insurance research base, an expanded analyst team and further investment into our digital toolkits to better serve you with impactful technology strategy insight, I’m excited to announce three changes that we’ll be making to our leadership team in insurance.
Karlyn Carnahan to extend her leadership into Life & Health for North America
I’m delighted to take on more responsibilities for the Insurance team in North America. I’ve focused on the property casualty space for much of my career (with a little stint in life consulting back in the day). But increasingly, the challenges insurers are working on are converging across lines of business. While there certainly are product differences that have profound impacts on the technology architecture of a life insurer versus a property casualty insurer, the fundamental issues of delivering a great customer/agent experience, using data effectively, transforming the legacy architecture to support digital transformation aren’t hugely different across lines.
We have an amazing team of very knowledgeable and experienced analysts across the insurance spectrum here in North America focusing on these fundamental issues – and we continue to expand. I’m looking forward to working more closely with our life clients, supporting the expansion of our health practice, and leveraging the knowledge of our amazing team to provide relevant trusted advice to our clients. Look for renewed vigor in our Executive Panel over the next few months as we continue to build out capabilities. I’m looking forward to working with you all and hope you’ll reach out with any thoughts or feedback you may have for me.

Nicolas Michellod to switch his attention to lead the expansion of Celent’s VendorMatch digital tools and research platform
After almost 15 years profiling insurance solutions and collecting primary information from insurance IT professionals through various channels including frequent discussions, surveys and our Model Insurer program, I have built a conviction that Celent has deep historical data that represents the fundamentals of a more sophisticated digital proposition.
My objective is to provide a digital and intuitive journey to our customers to capture the value of technology in financial services leveraging Celent’s data. I will focus more on this objective going forward with the intention of providing more value to our clients through further digitization of our offering.
Although I’ll be working on extending the data coverage of our platform, I’ll still have a foot firmly placed in the everyday analyst work we do with you, advising and helping you to navigate the ever more crowded and complex insurance technology landscape.

Juan Mazzini to lead insurance research across APAC, EMEA and LatAm
Thirty years ago, a little bit more to be honest, I started my journey working around IT and insurance. I inherited that passion from my father, one of the founders of IT in my home country, Argentina.
Since joining him at work at the tender age of 14, I’ve witnessed many changes across the world of insurance technology from the deployment of siloed applications served up through dumb terminals, through to the highly interconnected digital world we live in today. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how technology is adopted at a different pace and in dissimilar ways around the world, learning from and working with the most incredible people across multiple backgrounds and cultures. The world of insurance technology has never been more exciting and global, and we at Celent are passionate about helping you to exploit best of it.
It’s an honor to be asked to build upon Nicolas’s foundations to lead our fantastic team across APAC, EMEA and LatAm, and further develop our deep expertise and insight across the region. I’m looking forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your goals with us.
- Juan Mazzini, jmazzini@celent.com
Karlyn, Nicolas and Juan are exemplary analysts with a deep (even geeky) passion for all things innovation and insurance technology related. If you’ve not yet had the opportunity to work with them, I have confidence that you’ll love it when you do. Stay tuned to hear more from them.
