Data Science Discussions at the European AI & Analytics Conference
Data science leads find a home to discuss their challenges.
On the 9th and 10th of October I had the great privilege of chairing the 5th Annual Insurance AI and Analytics Europe in London. I have chaired, presented at and generally participated in many of the earlier conferences over the years and it has been exciting to see how swiftly the conference, the conversations, the challenges and the participants have changed.
Long gone are the questions that focus solely on what use cases to try with AI, now the discussion has moved to more pragmatic challenges of established data science teams. In the 2018 conference many of the participants are leads in data science teams. Where before the challenges were of a few mavericks looking to build a case for looking at AI, and then last year insurers trying to draw together people with skills and experience from diverse parts of the organisation — this year we saw established data science and AI teams discussing the realities of bringing AI and advanced analytics to incumbent insurance firms.
