Why Bankers Should Pay Attention to 5G
And Why I Changed My Mind
I just had my mind completely changed about the impact of 5G on retail banking. I knew that 5G would have profound implications on IoT, analytics, and all sorts of other non-financial areas, but I thought that retail banking could wait and see. I was wrong. 5G's effects won't be felt overnight, but as it's rolled out and adopted over the next 3-5 years the implications will be profound.
How did I come to this epiphany? I moderated a panel with Wells Fargo and Verizon on The Future of 5G and Financial Services. At Digital Banking 2019 I went in with the skeptical hypothesis that the transmission of wireless banking data today is fast enough, that WiFi would fill in the gaps, and that better wireless video wouldn’t move the needle. It turns out that my perspective was naive at best and ignorant at worst.

This is very insightful Dan and a topic that I had not yet considered. I will spark the conversation at SAS and their wider communities. Looking forward to further insights.
