8 Japan Conferences: 2021 in Review, Part 2
Here’s a short recap of where and what we discussed
Conferences are always exciting and filled with thought-provoking ideas and discussions. This was indeed the case in 2021 around Asia-Pacific (APAC). The year was packed with many great opportunities to attend panel discussions and presentations across the region. In addition to being able to communicate past research results and findings through presentations, I was happy to be able to serve in the role of conference chair and panel moderator and have opportunities to engage and discuss with leading industry thinkers and luminaries, paving the path for future research themes and insights, all of which were quite valuable to me. People meet and exchange opinions and ideas, with the result of deeper discussion. To my mind, the preparation and nerves that precede the big day are fundamental to the mission of being an analyst and at the heart of our profession.
Since the pandemic, digital has become the norm in the conference scene. Events sponsored by industry associations, media, and vendors have moved to webinar formats, and Celent's Innovation and Insight (I&I) Week was again conducted in a digital format this year. The digital transformation (DX) of these conferences is accelerating the distribution of on-demand digital content, as well as making huge synchronous and asynchronous human interactions via web screens routine.
As we begin 2022, we look back at the conferences and Celent webinars of 2021. A common thread running through the discussions in the banking, insurance, securities, wealth management, and risk management industries is new competition and collaboration through DX and ecosystem innovation; the advancement of platform business through open architecture and application programming interfaces (APIs); data-driven decision-making through artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML); and legacy platforms and core systems modernization revolutionized by the cloud, cloud innovation to modernize legacy platforms and core systems, and accelerated innovation.
In Part 2, we will take a look at four noteworthy conferences from the latter half of 2021.
