Thesis
Banks are at a critical juncture. With revenue pools of nearly $1 trillion worldwide at stake (cash management/payments, trade finance, and lending; Oliver Wyman), banks need to enrich client as well as staff experience, empower clients with effective self-service and bankers with data analytics, and enhance corporate banking overall by adopting a design thinking approach and partnering with solution providers in the vanguard.
Corporate banks are well-positioned to lead the digitization charge and get ahead of the challengers. They already have a relatively large customer base, expertise in data capture, remittance processing, dispute resolution, disbursement, and reconciliation. Some are in the data analytics and artificial intelligence vanguard. In addition, they can leverage their credit products and skills and offer working capital financing options. Banks that harness these assets and overcome the challenges to enriching, empowering, and enhancing will win a disproportionate share of the global transaction banking revenue pool.
With revenue pools of nearly $1 trillion, banks need to enrich client as well as staff experience, empower clients with effective self-service and bankers with data, analytics, and enhance corporate banking overall by adopting a design thinking approach and partnering with solution providers in the vanguard.
For most banks, the biggest challenge to achieving corporate banking excellence is the organizational silos making it difficult to prioritize the overarching, comprehensive paradigm shift necessary to lead the digitization charge and get ahead of challengers.
