Blame The Postal Service. Desjardins Finds Creative Way to Boost Online Statement Adoption

As you may or may not have heard, Canada Post is on strike. That means that all forms of snail mail delivered in Canada will now be slower than ever. This past Saturday, Desjardins took out a full page ad in the newspaper encouraging customers to sign up for online statements (in order to avoid mail delays). This type of ad is a win-win for the financial institution and the customer. It obviously provides a simple way for the customer to gain access to their statements during a postal service disruption. What's more interesting to me, is that it's a creative way for Desjardins to take advantage of the postal strike in order to promote use of electronic statements. Desjardins is also using its web site to promote online statement enrollment. Just below the online banking login Desjardins has add the following, "Don't wait for the mail. Register for the online statement."

I can already picture banks across the US praying for the already shaky US Postal Service to go on strike. What a way to cut costs!
