Bob Meara has been with Celent for more than a decade and is a seasoned analyst with deep expertise in receivables processing, remote deposit capture, currency automation and omnichannel retail delivery. When Bob is not busy consulting clients on financial services hardware, software, and the impact of self-service on branch banking, you'll find Bob spending time with his bride, Christi, who he's been married to for 34 years, their four adult children and two grandchildren.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM ORIGINALLY / WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
I grew up in a small northeastern Ohio town as the youngest of five siblings to blue-collar parents. Currently, I live in Marietta, GA – a suburb of Atlanta.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CITY/PLACE YOU’VE TRAVELED?
I’ve been to many places, but home is where the heart is. A small-town kid at heart, Atlanta is where our relationships are centered.
FAVORITE ANIMAL?
Dogs by a long shot.
Any Pets?
We’re “pet free” empty nesters now. I miss our dogs, but enjoy the simplicity and freedom having a completely empty nest affords.
FAVORITE HOBBY?
A lifelong electronics enthusiast, I enjoy restoring old radio equipment and spend occasional evenings “working DX” using Morse code and high-frequency ionospheric radio propagation. There are still a few of us around…
What's your story?
After studying electrical engineering and applied physics, I opted for a tour of duty on nuclear submarines rather than post-graduate work. “It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure” captured my imagination. Life onboard submarines is sometimes described as “long periods of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror”. Since serving, I have punctuated my professional life with adventure, including skydiving, piloting small airplanes, cycling and motorcycling.
What do you love about your job?
I was initially drawn to Celent and to the research analyst role as a client. I valued Celent’s work and the insight it provided. Since I enjoy learning and being of service to others, the research analyst role has been a great fit for me ever since.
