Juan Mazzini is responsible for driving research and providing advisory services to C-level executives in the financial services industry in themes such as fintech, insurtech, innovation, emerging technology and business transformation. His work includes advising firms based in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. When not working he loves being outdoors, traveling, enjoying food, and being around friends and family. You could say that most of his travel is really around those important items: outdoors, food, friends ,and family, though perhaps not in that exact order.
Where do you call home?
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I grew up in a town 15 miles away from downtown (the burbs), I have had the opportunity to live in other countries such as Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, and Puerto Rico for different periods of time.
I moved to Miami 6 years ago
Do you have a favorite place you’ve traveled?
This one is tough. Each city has its charm. If I had to choose from my home country I would say that I love Patagonia.
Do you have any pets?
No pets, but horses are my favorite animal.
What is your Favorite Band / Music / Song?
U2 / Every style of music, I guess it depends on my mood / Climb every mountain (The sound of music)
Favorite Food/ Dish?
Asado (barbecue)
How has your childhood prepared you for the work you do now?
I attended a British school in Buenos Aires, which came in very handy later in life for international travel, studies, and work. My professional career has always exposed me to work in multicultural environments, facing the challenges that come from emerging and mature markets, but mostly learning the differences between countries and cultures and how they relate to work and behavior. Be with Celent or from another role, I always would cherish being able to drive change.
What does being an analyst mean?
Being an analyst to me means being curious, being inquisitive, challenging the status quo, never stop learning.
I love being an analyst as we get to see many things firsthand and learn a lot in the process. Those learnings can be synthesized and applied to help the industry move to the next level.
What challenges or opportunities do you see ahead for our clients?
Financial services are changing rapidly due to a changing ecosystem with external forces affecting their business coming from consumers, technology, economy, regulation, and competition. I am responsible for driving research and providing advisory services to C-level executives in the financial services industry in themes such as fintech, insurtech, innovation, emerging technology ,and business transformation.
What’s up next for your research?
I’m working on emerging tech adoption in insurance. This will be a global view but will consider regional differences. Another report I am working on is a view of digital transformation in insurance. It is focused on some specific experiences in LATAM, but there is a lot to learn from those experiences, in particular what insurers would do if faced with the possibility of launching a new digital initiative.
