Brad Bailey moved from data technology, to derivative analyst, to sales trader, to quant trader. A strategy role led to consulting and ultimately led him to trading technology. He is particularly interested in understanding how technology can create an efficient path to more automated capital markets. Hence, it only made sense that he write and engage with clients at Celent. When he is not busy analyzing technology and market structure, writing, or speaking, you'll find Brad outside biking, reading, or spending time his family.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM ORIGINALLY / WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
I grew up in rural New Jersey. After working abroad and living in New York City for more than a decade, I returned to New Jersey (Princeton) with my family.
FAVORITE ANIMAL / PETS?
I have always had a thing for birds of prey; happy to have so many hawks, eagles and owls back in NJ. Right now we have two dogs: Friday, an 8-year Labradoodle, and Lyla, a 2-year-old French Bulldog.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CITY/PLACE YOU’VE TRAVELED?
Tough question- so many wonderful cities and places around the globe. One moment that sticks out was watching a concert in the Parthenon (in Athens) during an electrical storm; the flashes of lightning seemed to keep time with the music!
FAVORITE BAND / MUSIC / SONG?
90s rock and roll-Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers. But my favorite song is All Along the Watchtower-Hendrix version.
FAVORITE FOOD?
Peanut butter and jelly on rye!
WHAT'S YOUR STORY?
I studied aerospace engineering in college and graduate school, yet I was drawn to the dynamism and complexity of the financial markets. I have always been interested in applied technology on one hand, and working with diverse teams of other professionals. All my work has been at the intersection of technology and the expansion of human ability and efficiency through technology. I love this role because I am constantly learning and helping others think about the impact of new technologies, market structures, and other impactful events.
WHAT IMPACT SHOULD AN ANALYST PROVIDE?
I think the biggest challenge is making sense of how quickly things change. In the capital markets, there is a constant onslaught of new concepts. I work hard to separate the hype from the reality.
